Eastern Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum)

Eastern Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum)

These strikingly patterned snakes are harmless to humans. Milk Snake is currently considered to be in the same species as the very different-looking Scarlet Kingsnake (Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides) because the two may intergrade in areas where there ranges meet, such as northeastern N.C. Milk Snake is found in North Carolina only in the Mountains, but occurs throughout Virginia.
