Golden-backed Snipe Fly (Chrysopilus thoracicus)

The Golden-backed Snipe Fly, common in North Carolina, is one of our most beautiful flies, with a glittering golden thorax above.

Males have skinny abdomens that are upturned near the end, females have plump ones.
