With emerald green eyes as an adult and a mocha-colored body, this distinctive dragonfly is fairly common in the North Carolina Piedmont and Coastal Plain. Males (as at left) have narrow waists. This male was patrolling a small puddle in a gasline clearing -- we never saw it land.
