Curlyheads (Clematis ochroleuca)

Curlyheads is an odd little subshrub with large, opposite, almost leathery leaves. Fairly rare in North Carolina, where it is generally found in dry woodlands over basic rock.

The common name Curlyheads comes from the ornamental seedheads, which look like they are covered with curly hair. The flowers (not shown) are also quite attractive — white and downward-pointing, with the tips curled back.
