Coastal Witchalder is a deciduous shrub that grows in the southern half of the Coastal Plain of North Carolina, where it is uncommon.

It is similar to Fothergilla major of the Piedmont and Mountains, but has smaller leaves and flowers. The leaves turn brilliant orange-red in fall. Also called Dwarf Witchalder.
