Persian Ivy (Hedera colchica)

Persian Ivy is relatively rare in North Carolina as a cultivated plant and even rarer as an escape from cultivation. The plant photographed here is spreading into Battle Park in Chapel Hill, the only place in the state I've seen it so far. The leaves are larger and more rounded than those of the much more common English Ivy (Hedera helix).

Chapel Hill, NC 4/10/10.

Persian Ivy (Hedera colchica)

Here growing intermingled with Common Periwinkle (Vinca minor).

Chapel Hill, NC 4/10/10.
