St. Andrew's Cross (Hypericum hypericoides)

This low shrub with a thin, open, upright growth habit is common in dry woods throughout North Carolina. Similar to the closely related Hypericum stragulum (also known as St. Andrew's Cross), but with a more upright and open habit. The narrow leaves are widest towards the middle, while those of H. stragulum are wider towards the tip. The four narrow petals of the bright yellow flowers form a cross.
