Northern Pearly Eye (Enodia anthedon)

Common in the northern Piedmont and Mountains of North Carolina, Northern Pearly-eyes are large satyrs that have a floppy flight and are often seen in moist grassy woodlands.

Compare with the Southern Pearly-Eye and Creole Pearly-Eye, which are both more common in the Coastal Plain and rarely found in the Piedmont and Mountains. Southern Pearly Eye has orange antennal clubs; Creole Pearly Eye has black antennal clubs, but five forewing eyespots and a "knuckle" in the forewing median dark band.
